WHAT IS BOWEN?

Bowen originated from Australia, and as its name suggests it was developed by Tom Bowen (1916 to 1982). It was first taught in 1986 and so is a relatively new therapy, growing very rapidly worldwide mainly due to its great results.

Bowen is a gentle, but effective, therapy which helps the body reset, balance and heal itself.
It is a holistic therapy which addresses the body as a whole unit rather than just the presenting symptoms, therefore helping to reduce the possibility of re-injury.

This dynamic muscle and connective tissue therapy consists of a series of precise moves at specific sites on the body with vital two minute waits between specific moves to allow responses to take place.

The therapist works on fascia (connective tissue/membrane), that runs throughout the body covering all structures from muscles to organs.  We can address every system in the body.

Healthy fascia is loose, moist, mobile and elastic, facilitating movement between all parts of the body. When stress or injury occurs the fascia hardens, grows less flexible and becomes less porous reducing elasticity and fluid flow this is seen as a restriction in movement.
